JOB DESCRIPTION

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute is seeking a Data Engineer & Analyst to work in the Childhood Liver Oncology group to complete, refine, and scale an advanced Power BI analytical platform currently in development. The primary goal of this position is to finalize the automation of our biorepository, clinical, pathological and molecular data integration pipelines and polish the semantic model, increasing the operational productivity of our research.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate to complete and scale automated ETL pipelines to harmonise heterogeneous clinical and pathological datasets across European institutions.
  • Finalize and refine the Power BI semantic model, optimising VertiPaq engine performance and ensuring deterministic filter propagation.
  • Program and update advanced DAX measures, Calculation Groups, and Gap Analysis architectures to monitor protocol compliance.
  • Increase the operational productivity of the consortium by automating data reconciliation tasks.
  • Deploy and maintain the embedded data quality monitoring framework (Completeness, Uniqueness, Referential Integrity).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science and Engineering.
  • Fluent in English, Catalan, and Spanish.
  • Knowledge in PowerBI, DAX, ETL, Python.
  • High analytical problem-solving capacity, strong communication skills to interact with clinicians and pathologists, and a proactive focus on automating repetitive workflows.
  • Proven experience in designing data architectures, resolving complex relational challenges (e.g., biological lineage tracking), and implementing data quality monitoring systems in clinical or research environments.
  • Previous experience in the development of Power BI tools in the field of biomedical sciences and knowledge of advanced workflow automation tool will be considered an asset.

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is a public research centre located in Badalona. Its main objective is to increase scientific knowledge in order to transform it into solutions to improve the health and medical care of patients and the community.

The Institute is associated with one of the major university hospitals in the Barcelona area, the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital, and is part of the Can Ruti biomedical campus. IGTP is a CERCA centre and is also accredited as a centre of excellence by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) and is in charge of coordinating the management and scientific strategy of the campus, working in close collaboration with the other centres.
