The IGTP is looking for a committed, enthusiastic and experienced postdoctoral researcher in genomics to work primarily on the DM1-Hub project, while also participating in associated research initiatives that aim to genetically characterize patients with Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1).

DM1-Hub aims to be the basis for the implementation of precision medicine aspects in Spain for the benefit of patients with Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1), prioritizing better diagnosis and optimization in the use of soon-to-be-available treatments. The DM1-Hub project brings together a group of 80 professionals in the areas of research and clinical monitoring of DM1. Together they form a multidisciplinary work team with extensive experience in this pathology at the research level, which includes predoctoral, postdoctoral and senior researchers, including renowned research groups in the field of rare neuromuscular diseases and DM1 in particular. Specifically, the team is made up of specialists in genomics, epigenetics, bioinformatics, biostatistics, proteomics, applied research and scientific dissemination. In turn, the team makes up an important network of around 70 health professionals (neurologists, neuropediatricians, neuropsychologists and nurses), in more than 40 hospitals in 8 different Autonomous Communities, who follow up with DM1 patients in their consultations.

The selected candidate will contribute to the scientific development of DM1-Hub through the generation, analysis and interpretation of genomic and related molecular data. In addition, the candidate will support other DM1 research projects within the group, focused on improving the genetic and molecular understanding of the disease to support future diagnostic and therapeutic advances.

The project DM1-Hub is funded through the grant PMPER24/00007 from ISCIII for Research Projects on Rare Diseases, from the 2024 Call for Joint Missions of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, under the PERTE for Vanguard Health and within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

The candidate would be also supported to apply for a Sara Borrell program under the current AES2026 call.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The postdoctoral researcher would be coordinating different aspects of the DM1-Hub project: 
  • Candidate will receive capacitation in:
    1. Mission, objectives and main tasks of the DM1-Hub project.
    2. REDCap database (given by the experts of the DM1-Hub project).
    3. Possibility of formation with Treat-NMD in quality data acquisition.
  • Sample shipment coordination between participants of the DM1-Hub project 
  • High molecular weight DNA extraction from blood
  • Generation of libraries after targeted enrichment and sequencer loading
  • Monitoring of data acquisition, genetic data entry in REDCap, participation in data analysis and interpretation
  • Cell culture maintenance and characterization 
  • Participation in outreach activities, patients’ workshops or other scientific events. 
  • Attendance to regular meetings with the DM1-Hub curators and other members of the DM1-Hub team.
  • Reporting results, problems and achievements to the DM1-Hub managing team.
  • Writing scientific reports and scientific papers of the project.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE
  • Doctorate in biomedical sciences, genetics, or similar.
  • Experience in genomics and sequencing library preparations, experience in long read sequencing library preparations is a plus.
  • Experience in advanced DNA handling techniques, CAS9 cuts, high molecular weight DNA extraction methods, DNA selection and targeted enrichment methods, and DNA cleaning and size selection
  • Experience in primary cell cultures work and analysis of cell extracts.
  • High level of Spanish and English, written and spoken. Catalan is a plus.
  • Skills in multidisciplinary project management, emphasis in sample management
  • Advanced skills in scientific communication and writing (scientific reports, scientific papers and public presentations)
  • People management skills and mentoring
  • Previous experience working with databases
  • Previous experience in the area of rare diseases will be valued.
  • Candidates with a strong publication record who are interested in applying for a Sara Borrell fellowship at GRENBA in the current call (2026) will be prioritized
WHAT WE OFFER
  • Temporary contract Next Generation, linked to DM1-Hub, project funded through a grant PMPER24/00007 from ISCIII for Research Projects on Rare Diseases, from the 2024 Call for Joint Missions of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, under the PERTE for Vanguard Health and within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
  • Start of contract: 25 of March, 2026.
  • 33,000 euros gross per year.
  • Gross annual remuneration inherent to the square objected to this call, will be fixed based on the experience provided and the skills of the candidate, distributed in 12 payments.

DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA OCUPACIÓN

L'IGTP está buscant un/a investigador/a postdoctoral compromès/esa, entusiasta i amb experiència en genòmica per treballar principalment en el projecte DM1-Hub, així com participar en iniciatives de recerca associades que tenen com a objectiu caracteritzar genèticament pacients amb Distròfia Miotònica de tipus 1 (DM1).

DM1-Hub pretén ser la base per a la implantació d'aspectes de medicina de precisió a Espanya en benefici dels pacients amb distròfia miotònica tipus 1 (DM1), prioritzant un millor diagnòstic i optimització en l'ús dels tractaments que estaran disponibles properament. El projecte DM1-Hub aplega un grup de 80 professionals de les àrees de recerca i seguiment clínic de DM1. Junts formen un equip de treball multidisciplinari amb una àmplia experiència en aquesta patologia a nivell investigador, que inclou investigadors predoctorals, postdoctorals i sènior, entre els quals destaquen grups de recerca reconeguts en l'àmbit de les malalties neuromusculars rares i de la DM1 en particular. Concretament, l'equip està format per especialistes en genòmica, epigenètica, bioinformàtica, bioestadística, proteòmica, recerca aplicada i divulgació científica. Al seu torn, l'equip forma una important xarxa d'uns 70 professionals de la salut (neuròlegs, neuropediatres, neuropsicòlegs i infermeres), en més de 40 hospitals de 8 comunitats autònomes diferents, que fan el seguiment dels pacients amb DM1 en les seves consultes.

La persona seleccionada contribuirà al desenvolupament científic de DM1-Hub mitjançant la generació, anàlisi i interpretació de dades genòmiques i d’altres dades moleculars relacionades. A més, donarà suport a altres projectes de recerca sobre DM1 dins del grup, centrats a millorar el coneixement genètic i molecular de la malaltia per impulsar futurs avenços diagnòstics i terapèutics.

El projecte DM1-Hub està finançat a través d'una beca PMPER24/00007 de l'ISCIII per a Projectes de Recerca en Malalties Rares, de la Convocatòria 2024 de Missions Conjuntes del Ministeri de Sanitat i el Ministeri de Ciència, Innovació i Universitats, sota el PERTE de vanguardia i en el marc del Pla de Recuperació, Transformació i Resiliència.

El/La candidat/a tindrà el suport de GRENBA per aplicar a la convocatòria actual Sara Borrell (AES2026).
FUNCIONES
El/La investigador/a postdoctoral coordinaria diferents aspectes del projecte DM1-Hub:
  • Abans de començar rebria formació en:
    1. Missió, objectius i tasques principals en el projecte DM1-Hub.
    2. La base de dades RedCAp (formació donada pels experts en el projecte DM1-Hub).
    3. Possibilitat de formació amb Treat-NMD en l'adquisició de dades de qualitat.
  • Enviament de mostres entre els diferents participants del projecte DM1-Hub.
  • Extracció d'ADN d'alt pes molecular de la sang.
  • Generació de biblioteques després de l'enriquiment específic i la càrrega del seqüenciador.
  • Seguiment de l'adquisició de dades, introducció de les dades en bases de dades i participació en l'anàlisi de dades.
  • Manteniment de cultius cel·lulars i la seva caracterització.
  • Participació en tallers de pacients o altres esdeveniments científics.
  • Assistir a reunions periòdiques amb els membres de DM1-Hub.
  • Informar de resultats, problemes i assoliments a l'equip directiu de DM1-Hub.
  • Redacció d'informes científics i articles científics del projecte del projecte.
SE REQUIERE
  • Doctor en ciències biomèdiques.
  • Experiència en genòmica i preparacions de biblioteques de seqüenciació, es valorarà experiència en preparacions de biblioteques de seqüenciació de lectura llarga.
  • Experiència en tècniques avançades de manipulació d'ADN, talls CAS9, mètodes d'extracció d'ADN d'alt pes molecular, selecció d'ADN i mètodes d'enriquiment dirigits, i neteja de l'ADN i selecció de mides.
  • Experiència en treball amb cultius primaris i en l’anàlisi d’extractes cel·lulars.
  • Idiomes parlats i escrits: anglès, castellà i català.
  • Habilitats en la gestió coordinada de projectes.
  • Habilitats en comunicació.
  • Coneixements per redactar informes científics, treballs científics i presentacions públiques.
  • Habilitats en l'organització de l'enviament de mostres.
  • Habilitats de gestió de persones.
  • Habilitats per treballar amb bases de dades.
  • Es valorarà experiència en treballs previs de recerca en l'àmbit de les malalties rares.
  • Es prioritzaran candidats amb bon CV de publicacions que vulguin demanar una Sara Borrell a GRENBA en la present convocatòria (2026).

¿Quiénes somos?

El Instituto de Investigación Germans Trias i Pujol (IGTP) es un centro de investigación público situado en Badalona (Barcelonés) que tiene como objetivo principal incrementar el conocimiento científico para transformarlo en soluciones para mejorar la salud y atención médica de los pacientes y de la comunidad.

El Instituto está asociado a uno de los grandes hospitales universitarios del área de Barcelona, el Hospital Germans Trias y Pujol, y forma parte del campus biomédico de Can Ruti. Es un centro CERCA y también está acreditado como centro de excelencia por el Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), siendo el encargado de coordinar la gestión de la investigación y la estrategia científica del campus, trabajando en estrecha colaboración con los otros centros que se ubican en el mismo.
