JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a Deputy Laboratory Manager to take responsibility for the laboratories on the IGTP campus. He/she will be working to ensure the correct operation and management of the shared research areas in the building. The Deputy laboratory manager will be the point of contact between our research laboratories and the administration of the institution as well as with the official organisations.
 
The Deputy Laboratory Manager will coordinate the management of the different IGTP buildings/facilities and will report his/her work to the Lab Manager Unit coordinator.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure the organization of common rooms (cell culture labs, electrophoresis,…) to maintain quality and efficiency and to assure compliance with internal and external regulatory standards. 
  • Manage access to lab facilities.
  • Coordination of the purchasing and maintenance (guarantees, quality controls, inspections etc.) of shared equipment in order to optimize resources and encourage synergy. 
  • Implementation and maintenance of software associated with the inventory of laboratory equipment. Guidelines for use and training for equipment in shared areas. 
  • Implementation of good laboratory practices and supervision of their application.
  • Coordination of update of emergency protocols, health and safety and biosecurity. 
  • Responsibility for security systems associated with equipment: freezers, CO2. 
  • Ensure the proper waste management. 
  • Coordination of general services with the technician in the sterilization room: common stocks of reagents and material, Mycoplasma tests, production of competent cells, cell line authentication, etc. 
  • Introduction to the facilities of new employees. 
  • Daily communication with labs and updating of lab resources available on intranet. 
  • Organization of demos for possible new equipment for researchers. 
  • Regular meetings with technicians.
  • Management of laboratory notebooks.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Lab Manager or equivalent position.
  • Degree in biology, life sciences or related disciplines.
  • Understanding of several lab techniques.
  • Experience in cell culture and genomics would be an additional asset.
  • Fluent English essential (all protocols and guides are in English). 
  • Experience in basic computer tools: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to teamwork & collaboration.
  • Pro-active, responsible and well-organized person.
  • Attitude to learn and work independently.
  • Adaptability to the user demands.

The Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) is a public research centre located in Badalona. Its main objective is to increase scientific knowledge in order to transform it into solutions to improve the health and medical care of patients and the community.

The Institute is associated with one of the major university hospitals in the Barcelona area, the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital, and is part of the Can Ruti biomedical campus. IGTP is a CERCA centre and is also accredited as a centre of excellence by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) and is in charge of coordinating the management and scientific strategy of the campus, working in close collaboration with the other centres.
